"Well, it's just what I have to do, and then I can go back to school."
Those were the words spoken by an 18-year-old man upon being diagnosed with bone cancer (osteosarcoma). Ever the cool head, his maturity, stability, and bravery gave all of us a goal to aspire to. Through his above-the-knee leg amputation, chemotherapy, physical therapy, numerous lung surgeries, hip disarticulation, spinal surgery, and eventual palliative care, he remained the same man we always knew. He kept his eye on the horizon in difficult times, and his head in the moment in good times. His ability to live his life undeterred in the face of such a terrible disease continues to be an inspiration to his family, friends, and Purdue University. The James Michael Wedge Memorial Scholarship aims to continue his legacy at Purdue University, and we thank each and every one of you who donate. Together, we can help others achieve in his name.
